This is an original restored U.S. M1 fixed bale helmet. The helmet was made by the McCord Radiator company in 1942. It was fully stripped of the many layers of post-war paint then repainted the correct shade of Olive drab, textured with pulverized Maryland cork. The helmet has a chinstrap with the early pattern cast brass M17-A1 hardware and was properly bar tacked into place with heavy cotton thread.
The helmet’s liner is Westinghouse marked and has been re-webbed with HBT cotton suspension and uncoated steel A washers. This pattern liner came out in mid 1942 and would have been used until the end of WWII.
The helmet is factory fresh and looks just as it would have when it left the McCord factory back in 1942. Perfect for a reenactor or even display.
