$520.00
Original restored Soviet SSH36 helmet in size 2. Carefully repainted and distressed to look and feel original.
Description
This is an original restored Soviet SSH36 helmet. The shell was produced between 1936 and 1939. This is not one of the many pitted, ground dug, bondo filled disasters that litter the auction sites. This shell is free from all that and made the perfect candidate for restoration.
The helmet was stripped of all post was paint then repainted the correct shade of moss green. Between 1936 and 1941 the Red Army went through several versions of the red star. The version used on this helmet was the type used starting in late 1937.
The helmet was then fit with the proper liner and chinstrap. The liner is made from vintage cloth with a leatherette sweat band. The chinstrap is a rare 1st pattern original. This particular version with a claw friction buckle was phased out in 1939.
The helmet was then distressed to look and feel original.
These early Soviet helmets have a great history. This model saw service in Mongolia, the Spanish Civil War, the Winter War, and the early days of WWII. Maybe this actual helmet was there too.
No Russian front collection is complete without one of these helmets.
