German M38 FJ helmet size 71/61 w/Tunisia camo. Reproduction shell made by FJ Werke. Aged to look and feel original.
Description
This M38 helmet is one of the best reproductions on the market. It was made in the U.S. by FJ Werke. The shape and weight of the helmet shell are flawless, even the visor has the proper flare, as seen on early to mid-war production shells. The shell is ET71 stamped and has a 901-heating lot number that indicates the helmet would have been made in 1941 if it were original.
The helmet’s restoration was based on those worn by FJ troops during the North Africa campaign. This helmet was painted field gray and had the proper ET Luftwaffe decal applied with period resin. The North African desert camo was brush applied. The color used here is a blend of the various RAL codes. During the campaign as supply issues increased, depots mixed left over camouflage paints which created a wide variety of shades of so-called DAK tan. In this case the camouflage is orange tan with a slight pink hue.
The liner and chinstrap are museum quality reproduction, with all the details found on originals. The chinstrap is made with goatskin, with newsprint sewn between the two pieces of leather. The strap is fit with original zinc coated Prym snaps. The liner has all the correct maker stamps, as well as the proper ‘railroad track” stitching. The crash pad and spacer are made of real buna rubber laminated with black cloth just like the originals were.
The helmet has been heavily distressed to looks and feel original. You’ll swear this one came home by a GI after the fall of Tunisgrad.
