Original restored M1 helmet w/Westinghouse jump liner. This is the configuration worn by the 506th during Operation Market Garden.
Description
This original fixed bale M1 helmet was made by McCord radiator in 1942. The helmet has been restored to look and feel like it might have been worn by a member of the famed 506th PIR Easy company of the 101st Airbourne.
The helmet was stripped of al post-war paint, then repainted the correct shade of WWII olive drab textured with pulverized cork. Both of the 506th spades and the NCO bar on the back were hand painted using a stencil, as would have originally been done. It should be noted that the spades are the smaller version authorized post-Normandy and would have been standard during the operations in Holland and after.
The helmet comes fit with a Westinghouse jump liner. The liner has been rebuilt with new webbing; OD #7 A yokes and Scovil female snaps. This is the version which was first issued to the 506th right before Normandy and were almost standard by Market Garden. The chinstrap cup is the web version which replaced the leather version in late 1944. It is worth mentioning that McCord ceased production of the so-called D-bale paratrooper helmet in 1943. At the time of Normandy and after it was common to issue regular fixed bale helmets as a substitute. The helmets were fit exactly as regular infantry helmets were with a standard chinstrap as was done here.
The helmet comes fit with a proper OD #7 net with bits of scrim still clinging to mess.
The helmet has been substantially distressed to look and feel original. If you have always wanted a legit 506th PIR helmet without paying 10k for it. This is a wonderful example.
