Description
This is an original U.S. M1 fixed loop helmet. The helmet had a 163-heating lot number indicating the shell was made by McCord in early 1942. The helmet was stripped of post war paint and repainted the correct shade of pulverized cork textured olive drab. An early pattern chinstrap was then bar tacked in place.
The helmet is fit a Westinghouse jungle liner. These liners were made by Westinghouse in the belief they could be worn instead of a helmet in the jungles of the South Pacific. The experiment was abandoned but many were issue out and were worn by Marines and Army troops alike in the PTO. This liner was made just like the originals with a cardboard stencil. The suspension is the early pattern rayon which is what was used on these jungle liners.
The helmet comes fit with a high-quality reproduction Marine cover. The cover has been weathers and distressed to reflect use in the South Pacific. The cloth is washed out from sun and salt damage. The cloth bares abrasions from sand and snags from foliage. It has all the feeling of having truly been there.
If you’re a USMC fan this is the helmet for you.
