Original restored U.S. M1 fixed bale Marine helmet. Comes with a Firestone marked liner. Repainted to look and feel original.
Description
This U.S. M1 helmet was made by McCord Radiator. The shell bears a 200 series heating lot number that indicates it was made in 1942. The helmet was stripped of all the layers of post-war paint then repainted the correct shade of McCord olive drab. The paint the textured with pulverized cork like all original were.
The helmet was restored to look like it might have been worn by a US Marine during operations in one of the Pacific Island campaigns of WWII. The helmet has been fit with a cover and rubber band. These bands were seen in a few places during the later part of the Pacific Campaign notable Iwo Jima.
The helmet’s liner is Firestone marked. The suspension is original and set into the helmet with green coated A washers. This is the early pattern made by Firestone late 1943. The sweatband is new, but aged to match the helmet.
The helmet has been heavily distressed to look and feel original. The cork has nicely compressed from handling and general use. The cover has a washed out look the result of sun and salt damage, as would be expected from prolonged use in the PTO.
If you’re looking for the helmet of the U.S. Marines of WWII, look no further.
