Original restored German M42 SS snow camo. Helmet is size 66/59. Distressed to look and feel original
Description
This original restored German M42 helmet is size 66. The shell is maker marked CkL indicating it was made by Eisenhuttenwerke. The lot number puts the production in mid 1943.
The helmet has been restored to look like it might have been worn by a member of the Waffen SS during one of the winter campaigns of 1944-45. The shell was stripped of post-war paint. The inside has original WWII paint and was left as it was found. The outside was repainted with the correct shade of field gray. The helmet was made during the deal drop so I opted for a SS Poucher decal instead of the CkL version, indicating the helmet might have been decaled at the depot or field level. The helmet was fit with a hemp cord for foliage. The snow camo was brush applied over the cord and decal. The helmet was then heavily distressed to look and feel original. The cord was removed during this, but the out line is still there.
The helmet comes fit with the proper M31 steel frame liner and RB marked chinstrap. Both have been aged to match the helmet.
This is a great and unique example of a snow camoed SS helmet that would look great in any WWII collection.
