German M42 in size 64/57. Restored to look and feel like an original winter camo battlefield pick up
Description
This original restored German M42 is size 64 and was made in 1944 by Quist. Quist factory was renowned for their well-made M40 helmet, which they would produce into 1945. In 1944 Quist did produce M42 helmets, but the production numbers were small.
The helmet was fully stripped of post-war paint then repainted the correct shade of aluminum oxide textured field gray. The helmet was then fit with the proper war time steel liner, and 1944 dated split pins. The helmet’s chinstrap has original hardware and is RB marked. The restoration is meant to reflect the last winter campaigns of WWII such as the Ardennes or Bastogne. The snow camo was sloppily applied using a worn-out paint brush. The brush strokes are quite evident. A five-twist farm wire basket was then installed onto the helmet which would have allowed for pine needles or bits of cloth to be woven into the hexes for further camouflage.
The helmet has been heavily aged to look and feel original. An excellent example for any WWII collection.
