German M40 size 66/58 DAK camo Heer
$600.00
Restored German M40 helmet with DAK camo. The helmet is size 66/58 featuring an original rebuild liner and all the details of the original.
Description
This original restored German M40 is ET66 marked with a lot number that puts production of the shell in 1941. The helmet was fully stripped of all post-war paint and repainted the correct shade of rough textured field gray. The Heer decal has been applied with period resin. The decal is the proper version used on ET helmets. The helmet’s liner is original, 1941. It has been rebuilt with new goat skin leather. The chinstrap is pig skin and is dated 1941 to match helmet.
The helmet has been brush painted with a coat of DAK camouflage. This shade was matched to an original and is a blend of several RAL colors. The mixing of paints to make existing stocks last longer was a common practice among the supply conscience equipment depots during the North Africa campaign.
The helmet has been heavily aged to look and feel original. The finish shows weathering from sun damage and other conditions typical of the North African climate. There are scuffs and abrasions from equipment, rocks and gravel. Exactly what you’d expect from the conditions in Egypt/Libya/Tunisia.
If you have anyways wanted the helmet of Rommel’s Afrikaners. Look no further.
