German M40 helmet in size 66. Made by Quist. Helmet has been restored to look and feel like an original Italian front vet bring back.
Description
This original restored German M40 helmet is Q66 marked indicating the shell was made by Quist. The heating lot number indicates a late 1941 production.
The helmet’s restoration was inspired by helmets worn on the Italian front during the fighting in 1944-45. The shell was fully stripped of post-war paint the repainted the proper shade of Luftwaffe blue. The helmet was then over brushed with of coat of mustard paint thickened with ash and woodchips. A farm wire basket was then fit to the helmet. The basket is made from vintage wire and has a real patina adding to the realism of the restoration.
The helmet’s liner and chinstrap are correct museum quality replicas.
The helmet has been distressed to look and feel original. This is a great example to fill out any WWII collections.
