Description

This is an original restored German M40 helmet in size 66/58. The shell is NS marked indicating it was made by Vereinigte Deutsche Nickelwerke AG, Schwerte. The shell was made in 1940. The NS66 stamp was accidently reversed with the heating lot number and is located on the back of the skirt. A rare factory error

The shell was stripped of post-war paint and repainted the correct shade of rough textured field gray paint. A Heer Poucher decal was then applied with period resin. This style decal is one of those known to be found on NS helmets. The shell was then brushed with a coat of orange-tan DAK camouflage. This paint was made blending several shades of DAK tan and red bone primer. This was a common practice during the North Africa campaign to make paint last longer, plus the odd shade of orange blended in perfectly to the North African terrain.

The helmet’s chinstrap and liner are museum quality reproductions, and have been carefully aged to match the wear on the helmet.

The helmet has been heavily distressed to look and feel original and would be a great example to fill out any DAK collection.
