Original restored German M40 DAK helmet. Properly repainted the correct shade of DAK tan, distressed to look and feel original.
Description
This original restored German M40 was made by Quist in 1941. The shell was fully stripped of post-war paint and repainted the correct shade of rough textured field gray. The dome was stamped with the proper Q inspector’s ink mark. A Heer decal was applied using period varnish. The decal used is the so called “Big foot” version used at the Quist factory. The helmet’s liner is original and dated 1941. It has been rebuilt with new leather. The helmet’s chinstrap is a museum quality restoration with war time steel hardware.
The helmet’s restoration was inspired by helmets worn in North African by the DAK. The shell was over brush painted over the factory paint with RAL 8020 tan, one of several colors known to have been used by the German in North Africa. The finish as a slight pink hue brought on by the hot African sun.
The helmet has been heavily destressed and aged to look and feel original. If you have ever wanted a DAK Heer helmet, this one looks great without the crazy price tag of an original
