Description

This M38 Fallschirmjäger helmet was reproduced by ATF in the late 1990s. The shell has the right shape, size, and weight, and looks identical to the originals. The shirt is CkL71 marked and if this was an original shell the heating lot number puts the production right after the decal drop in 1943.

The shell was stripped and repainted the correct shade of rough textured field gray paint. Like the originals the paint was textured with aluminum oxide. The helmet was then over painted with a coat of winter white paint and fit with a chicken wire basket. The camouflage was applied over the wire, and bits of white paint still cling to the wire.

The helmet’s liner was made by FJ Werke and has the correct Buna rubber spacers and crash pad. The stamps are duplicated from the original examples and applied with India ink. The chinstrap was also made by FJ Werke and comes with original grommets and zinc coated steel Prymm snaps. The liner was fit into the helmet with rare steel bolts. These were used as replacements in 1944 when the older spanner bolts came lose and were lost as they often did.

The helmet has been aged to look and feel original. An original example like this would sell for 20k. Now you can have the next best thing for a lot cheaper and you never need to worry about the authenticity.
