Description

This M35 helmet was restored and distressed to look and feel like a it was worn by a German soldier during the Western Desert Campaign of 1941-43.

The helmet shell is original and was made by Quist. The heating lot number indicates 1938 production. The shell is size 66. The helmet was fully stripped and repainted the proper shade of pre-war smooth apple green. A Heer and national colors decal were applied using period resin. The Heer decal is the big foot version used on Quist helmets. Like many DAK helmets, this one shows evidence of being refurbished at some point. The shell was upgraded steel split pins and a steel liner. The liner used here is a museum quality replica with all the detail found on originals. The chinstrap is likewise a museum quality replica and dated 1938.

The helmet has been brush painted with one of the various shades of so-called DAK tan. The national colors decal was painted over but can been seen through the paint. The Germans used a number of RALs and captured paints during their operations in Africa. This particular yellowish-orange tan was created using a blend of paints that would have been available in North Africa at the time.

The helmet shows lots of heavy use and wear meant to reflect the hard campaigning an original might have experienced. The finish is faded and exabits sand abrasions. There are plenty of chips and scuff from being dropped on the ground and colliding with equipment.

DAK helmets are rare and costly, but now you can have the next best thing for a fraction of the cost of an original. Grab this one while it is still here.
