German M42 size 64/57 Quist marked late war camo w/wire
$560.00
Original restored German M42 in size 64/57. The shell is one of the few made by Quist in 1944-45. Restored and distressed with a late-war subdued camouflage pattern.
Description
This original restored M42 was made by Quist in 1944. Unlike other helmet manufacturers Quist continued to produce M40 helmets into 1945. The firm did eventually relent to war department pressure and produced a small number of M42s. This one of those helmets. The lot number puts production in 1944.
The helmet was fully stripped of all post-war paint, then repainted the correct shade of rough textured field gray. The helmet was then over sprayed with a light coat of saw dust textured dark green camouflage paint. A perfect match for the conifer forests of Eastern Europe. A chicken wire half basket was then applied to the helmet, as was frequently done late in the war. The wire is vintage and has the proper European twist.
The helmets liner and chinstrap are museum quality reproductions that have been aged and distressed to match the helmet. The chinstrap is RB marked.
This is a great example of a late-war camouflaged helmet made using a rarely encountered shell. Perfect for any WWII collections.
