Description

This original restored German M16 helmet is K marked indicating it wade by Kirkman during the Great War. The helmet has been stripped of all post-war paint and restored to give the look and feel of an original SS-VT transitional helmet that might have been worn during the invasion of Poland or France.

During the early year of WWII the SS had a helmet shortage, and many men were issued with reconditioned Great War era helmets. Like the originals, this one was brush painted over a WWI finish, both outside and around the inside of the skirt. The paint in the dome of this helmet is the surviving original WWI paint and was left as it was found. The helmet was then decaled with early Poucher SS decal. Both were applied with period resin. The helmet was then fit with a M31 aluminum liner and a M35 chinstrap with aluminum hardware. The helmet has a ding in the dome and some shrapnel damage. It is likely legitimate war damage, likely from either of the World Wars. The helmet has been heavily distressed to look and feel original. This one definitely has that been there look.

Original SS-VT helmets sell for thousands. This is a great example for a fraction of the cost of an original.
