U.S. type V experimental helmet
This is an original U.S. type V experimental helmet. About 1500 of these were made near the end of WWI. A small number did go overseas and were worn on the Western front by the AEF in 1918. When restoring this helmet a small patch of surviving original paint was found under one of the bails, which was matched. The heavy saw dust finish was replicated from photos of originals. The helmet has been fit with the correct 3-pad liner with medical blue cloth backing
