The helmet was then over-sprayed with tones of grass-green and brick red. The wet paint was sprinkled wood chips to flatten the finish. These colors were fairly popular during the Normandy campaign and would have blended in well in the green countryside.  The helmet has been fit with a five-twist single strand chicken-wire half basket.
