A Navy chaplain’s shipboard helmet circa 1942-45. As with the originals, the battleship gray was brush applied over the cork textured olive drab factory paint. The rank and Latin cross were hand rendered without the use of a stencil, and are slightly sloppy, a common trait of period examples. I was asked to distress the helmet in a manor that might reflect service in the North Atlantic. The finish show saltwater damage as well as oil stains, and plenty of chips from being dropped on the deck or being knocked into bulk heads.
