This is an original German M17 helmet shell. It is size 66 and was made by Eisenhuttenwerke. This helmet is a true M17. Generally with German WWI helmet shells it is impossible to differentiate between the M16 and M17 models. The difference being in the type of liners band. In this case however the a ghost of the steel liner band can be clearly seen inside the helmet’s dome. This would indicate this helmet was made sometime in late 1917 or 1918 and therefore a true M17. The helmet comes to you fully restored with the proper three pad liner, chinstrap and horse hair pillow. Camo patterns and aging are both available for an extra fee. This is a sharp looking shell, feel of dents and pitting, it will restore just and well as the day it left the Eisenhuttenwerke factory in 1917.
