This original restored M40 is maker and size marked SE66. The lot number indicates the shell was made in 1941.

The inspiration for this helmet is the Mediterranean theater. This camo would have been worn by member of the Kreigsmarine in North African as well as Sicily, Greece the south of France.

The helmet was totally stripped of all post-war paint, then repainted the correct shade of rough textured field gray paint. The gold foil KM decal was applied with period resin. desert tan camo was brush onto the helmet, including the inside of the skit.

The helmet was fit with an original liner, it has been rebuilt with new, vintage leather. The leather is backed with an original wool felt pad. The chinstrap is a museum quality replica.

The helmet has been heavily distressed to look and feel original, and this one definitely looks like it was picked up in the desert. There is a wonderful over-all patina, that adds to the over-all look and feel.

A KM DAK helmet is the holy grail among collectors. Now you can have the next best things for a fraction of the price.
