This restored original German M40 helmet is maker marked Q66 and has a size 59 liner. The paint on the inside of the shell is the original WWII factory Luftwaffe paint and was left as it was found.
The helmet has been restored to look like an Italian front Luftwaffe 2-color camo, which would have been worn during the battle of Monte Cassino. The outside of the helmet was first repainted with aluminum oxide textured Luftwaffe blue-gray, then over sprayed with tones of mustard, dark green. White the paint was still wet it was sprinkled with saw dust to matte the finish. The Luftwaffe decal was painted around as was commonly done. The helmet was then fit with a six-twist chicken-wire basket. The wire was hand woven and is the exact type which was available to German soldiers in the ETO during the 1940s.
The helmet has been fit with a 1940 dated original rebuilt liner. The leather is new, but aged to make the helmet. The chinstrap is a high quality reproduction.
The helmet has been aged to look and feel like and original example. This is the perfect helmet to fill that hole in your collection without the 3k price tag of an original.
